What is homeowners insurance? PDF Print E-mail

Homeowners insurance provides financial protection against disasters that cause damage to your home. A standard policy insures the home itself and the property you keep in it.

A package policy, homeowners insurance covers both damage to your property and your liability (ie. legal responsibility) for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family, or your household pets cause to other people.

Most damage from natural disasters is covered but there are exceptions, including significant flood damage, earthquakes and poor maintenance. You must buy two additional separate policies for flood and earthquake coverage. The homeowner is responsibile for maintenance-related problems.
